Youenn, professional skipper and boat owner

A chemist, IT specialist, professional firefighter, and now a professional Breton sailing skipper, I developed a passion for sailing in 2015.

I then began a training journey in France, obtaining the coastal and offshore boating license, the short range certificate, and progressively achieving Level 5 (skipper) certification in cruising sailing, awarded by the French Sailing Federation.

This period marked a phase of discovery, learning, and development through regattas and cruising, giving me the opportunity to sail on various types of cruising yachts—fin keel, lifting keel, twin rudder, single rudder—ranging from 25 to 43 feet, in diverse sailing areas from the United Kingdom to Croatia, under a wide range of conditions and constraints.

To continue sailing regularly, maintain and pass on my skills, I obtained the Professional Qualification Certificate for Sailing Instructor (CQPIV) in 2019 and volunteered as an instructor for regatta and cruising courses at the Société des Régates de Brest.

To expand my qualifications, I also obtained authorization to teach motorboat handling, allowing me to train and certify candidates for boating licenses, as well as a Level 1 “Sport-Health” instructor certificate to support physical activities contributing to health and well-being.

My professional development continued with qualifications obtained in the United Kingdom:

  • RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper & Yachtmaster Offshore shorebased course certificate
  • RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Sail Certificate of Competence commercially and STCW endorsed
  • RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean shorebased course certificate
  • RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean Sail Certificate of Competence commercially and STCW endorsed

as well as merchant navy certifications in France, compliant with International Maritime Organization (STCW) standards:

  • Basic Safety Training Certificate
  • Medical Care Certificate
  • GMDSS General Operator’s Certificate.

In 2021, following the end of cruising training activities at the Société des Régates de Brest, several students and I founded the Cap Keltiek Cruising School, affiliated with the French Sailing Federation, where I volunteer as an instructor:

  • sessions on a cruising yacht
  • SECURIMAR training
  • preparation for the short range certificate (SRC)
  • chart navigation classes largely based on the offshore extension boating licence syllabus.

At the same time, the company Aezhenn Glaz was created, with activities including:

  • yacht charter
  • training in the maritime and inland waterways fields
  • maritime and inland passenger transport.

In 2024, my professional journey reached a key milestone with the award of the MCA Master 200 GT / OOW 500 GT (unlimited area) certificate of Competency issued by the United Kingdom, followed by recognition as a French Captain 200. This now authorizes me to carry passengers commercially on vessels under both British and French flags.

At the same time, Aezhenn Glaz obtained the commercial operating license for the vessel ALWENA from the French maritime authorities.

Thanks to these developments, new opportunities are opening up, and my maritime adventure continues with new horizons to explore and many meaningful encounters ahead.

War raok!
